13 Jun Enchanted by Petersham Nurseries
About 8 years ago my husband and I lived in London for 1 year. Besides enjoying the beautiful architecture of the city and the nice feeling of living in a town full of parks with magnificent trees, we enjoyed the food very much! Most of all our memories in London are related to the places we were going to eat. So of course, in this visit we were looking forward to eating at the places we loved.
My favorite restaurant in London is Petersham Nurseries. Located in Richmond, once you get off the overground train station you can walk close to the river until you get to the nursery, it takes about 30 minutes. At the restaurant it feels like you are in some sort of Eden. It is full of flowers and plants and vintage furniture. They have a store where they sell books, pottery, furniture, plants… You can just have a tea and some sweets or have a “proper meal”, as a Brit would say. We had a “proper meal” starting with marinated sea bream with radishes, green chili, lime & zisola olive oil, a very delicate and refreshing starter with touches of crunchiness with the thinly sliced radishes and also the poppy and sesame seeds. A nice starter that got us ready for our main dish: grilled monkfish with capers, grilled cherry tomatoes, fresh herbs like oregano and raw samphire or also known as sea asparagus, that was absolutely delicious. The tomatoes were nice and sweet, I loved the taste and bite of the grilled monkfish and I was happily surprised with the added texture of the raw sea asparagus. First time I tried it and hope it is not last…
After that wonderful meal we went back to London by boat. That was a sloooow ride but we enjoyed that different view of the ciy.
Bye London! We hope to be back soon!!!
